Kate Jayne: Music

Casablanca

(Kate Jayne)
April 21, 2009
I want to bring you flowers but I don’t know what you like
roses seem so heavy; daisies seem too trite
a simple way to tell you I’d like to spirit you away

I want to take you sailing on a endless blue lagoon
we’d play boardgames in the morning and sleep all afternoon
I’d love to get you somewhere you were unable to escape

long before the legends are passed down through the children
the horses and the heroes roam
and when they tell our story we will live in glory

I want to dance with you slowly in the alleys of spain
under old-time street lanterns to faint flamenco strains
adamantly turning against the spinning of the earth

I want to read short stories to each other in the bath
in whichever destination we picked blindfolded from the map
letting slip off the horizon the past we can’t forget

long before the legends are passed down through the children
the horses and the heroes roam
and when they tell our story we will live in glory

here, we’ll package up our likeness
hidden far beneath the surface
and let our radios go silent

I want to carve initials, yours and mine into wood
so after all the stars forget us we’ll know exactly where we stood
draw a heart around them with an arrow piercing through

I want to write you love songs and sing them while you sleep
you understanding by osmosis all the words I couldn’t speak
I would tell you to meet me in casablanca or rome
