The Heartbreakers

(Kate Jayne)
April 21, 2009
I knew when i saw you that you were a good one
the kind who gets away with murder because he's so handsome
like drops from a narcissus pool we were two of a kind
but come to discover you can be too much alike

we are the heartbreakers
we are the same
but when diamond meets diamond
my heart's only diamond in name

like a long ago lover you wish you could forget you once knew
it's a singular sadness that hangs on me after leaving you
and the hot desert dry and the saturated light of the summer
make the day seem like dreaming and night all I remember

we are the heartbreakers
we are the same
but when diamond meets diamond
my heart's only diamond in name

this is the difference between boys and girls

we'll both write sad songs though yours may not focus on me
it goes to prove someone's art doesn't demonstrate who they'll be
and in the absence of rain and the absence of the tears I don't cry
I keep my blues to myself and I keep the blue to my eyes

we are the heartbreakers
never the friends
that nobody gets hurt
seems too much to pretend

we are the heartbreakers
we are the same
but when diamond meets diamond
my heart's only diamond
